Who are we?
The Whitehorse Food Bank was started in 2007 by a group of concerned citizens who saw the need to provide emergency food to the hungry while supporting the greater effort to alleviate poverty. We opened our doors in May 2009.
The Whitehorse Food Bank largely relies on volunteer support to operate. We have dozens of volunteers who donated hundreds of ours of energy every month. We could not operate without the support of our amazing volunteers.
We are also generously supported by many individuals, families, schools, churches, businesses and other organizations throughout the year.
Together, we all help feed hungry people in our community.
Who are we serving?
Since opening in May 2009, we have helped over 7000 people, the vast majority of whom are from Whitehorse. This represents almost a 1/4 of the city. Any individual or family can receive 3-4 days of emergency once food per month. On average, over 1300 people come to the food bank for help every single month, 30% of whom are children.
As part of a caring community, provide emergency food to the hungry while supporting the greater effort to alleviate poverty.
At the Food Bank of Whitehorse, all our decisions and relationships are guided by the following values:
