About Us
Who are we?
The Whitehorse Food Bank was started in 2007 by a group of concerned citizens who saw the need to provide emergency food to the hungry while supporting the greater effort to alleviate poverty. We opened our doors in May 2009.
The Whitehorse Food Bank largely relied on volunteer support to operate. In 2020 with the rise of the pandemic, we found that neighboring communities were in dire need of help, and began shipping Hampers across the Yukon and Norhthern BC. In 2022 we officially became the Food Bank Society of the Yukon, committing to working on Food Security not only within Whitehorse, but across the Yukon as well. We have hundreds of volunteers who donated hundreds of hours of energy every month. We could not operate without the support of our amazing volunteers.
We are also generously supported by many individuals, families, schools, churches, businesses and other organizations throughout the year.
Together, we all help feed hungry people across the Yukon.
Who are we serving?
Any individual or family can receive 7 days of emergency once food per month. On average, over 1900 people come to the food bank for help every single month.
